Maryland’s only kosher poultry plant, closed by the State seven weeks age for sanitary reasons, will probably reopen within two months, according to Dr. Robert J. Lee, chief of the State Board of Agriculture’s Animal Science Department. Dr. Lee told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that the reported incident involving the striking of a State inspector by a rabbi attached to the plant, Pen-Mar, Inc., had been “exaggerated,” He said the relations between the company and the state were “very friendly” and that they were in contact several times a week over necessary improvements in the plant’s sanitary facilities. Dr. Lee said the company had submitted plans for projected improvements and remodeling, and that they would take only a few weeks to effect once a contractor is hired.
