The Jewish Agency’s Budget and Finance Committee recommended a working budget of $465 million for the current fiscal year at a meeting here yesterday. Last year’s budget was $387 million. The major items on the new budget are $105 million for housing, $72 million for higher education, $57 million for absorption and $34 million for health services.

A 33-year-old Druze soldier was promoted yesterday to the rank of Lt. Col. in the Israeli Army. The rank is the highest ever conferred on a non-Jewish officer.
