The “Women’s Lib” movement came to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations with the election this week of five additional national women’s groups, with a national membership reported at more than 510,000, it was announced by Jacob Stein, chairman of the Presidents Conference. This raises to seven the number of women’s organizations that are members of the now 30-member Conference.

The five newly elected members are: the B’nai B’rith Women, the National Women’s League of the United Synagogue, the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, the Mizrachi Women’s Organization of America, and the Pioneer Women. The two national women’s groups that hold membership in the Conference are Hadassah and the National Council of Jewish Women.

Announcing the election of the new women’s groups, Stein said, “We are happy to give additional representation to American Jewish women in our Presidents Conference. We now have a membership of well over a million women within the ‘umbrella’ organizations of the American Jewish community.” With the addition of these five new groups, “the voice of the organized Jewish community on matters relating to international affairs, our 30 affiliated groups have within their memberships practically every adult Jew in the United States,” Stein said.
