A Gahal MK charged today that Jerusalem schools were unprotected against possible attacks sabotage by terrorists and demanded to know why no outside security assistance was provided. The charges were made in the form of questions submitted by Avraham Katz to the Defense and Education Ministers.

Katz complained that the burden of security in the schools was placed solely on the principals. He said the Education Ministry advised the principals to assign women teachers and 11-12-year-old students to conduct searches of the school premises and grounds for bombs and booby-traps.

Katz asked the Defense Minister whether Haga, the civil defense organization had instructions to protect the schools and whether he would order Haga units to take over guard duties at the schools. Katz wanted to know how the Defense Minister felt about assigning grade school pupils to search operations.
