The third annual General Assembly of the Jewish Agency convened here tonight, overshadowed by the Nixon visit for which reason its opening had been postponed one day. The gathering, to last four days, will be addressed by President Ephraim Katzir, Premier Yitzhak Rabin and former Premier Golda Meir. it was opened officially by Leon Dulzin, acting chairman of the Jewish Agency and World Zionist Organization Executives.

One of the main items on the agenda will be the election of a new chairman to succeed the late Louis Pincus who died last year. As the Assembly convened, Israel’s former Finance Minister, Pinhas Sapir, was the only candidate for the dual post. Top agenda items are the Jewish Agency’s budget, immigration and absorption and the serious decline in Jewish emigration from the Soviet Union.
