Darius Milhaud Dead at 81

Private funeral services will be held at the Jewish cemetery here tomorrow for Darius Milhaud, the famed French-Jewish composer who died Saturday at the age of 81. The services, in conformance with Mr. Milhaud’s wishes, will be conducted by Rabbi Alexander Safran. His body will be buried in Aix-En-Provence, the town of his birth.

Mr. Milhaud was a versatile musician who left a legacy of operas, cantatas, ballets, symphonies and chamber music. He enjoyed particular success in the United States where he was the first conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
