Soviet authorities are permitting a Western newsman, probably British, and Russian dissidents to attend the trial of Victor Polsky. a prominent Jewish activist, the National Conference on Soviet Jewry said it has learned today. Calling the move “unprecedented,” the NCSJ said that one of the dissidents, Alexander Goldfarb, will act as an interpreter for a lawyer from California, Brad Marcus, who is attending the trial. Two other California lawyers are also at the trial, the NCSJ said. The three lawyers are reportedly at the trial as observers. Polsky, on trial for what Jewish sources say are trumped-up charges of injuring a pedestrian last March through careless driving could receive a maximum three-year jail sentence if convicted.
