Iranian troops will replace the Peruvian forces on the Golan Heights, it was announced here today. According to a United Nations spokesman, Iran informed Secretary General Kurt Waldheim of her willingness to provide one battalion to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).
The Peruvian troops will complete their departure at the end of the month and according to the UN spokesman, the Iranians are already preparing to take their place. Waldheim is reportedly very pleased with the Iranian offer and was in touch today with Israel and Syria on this matter.
