Jewish immigration to Israel from the U.S., and Canada during August increased 30 percent over August, 1974, according to figures released by the Israel Aliya Center. The number of North American Jews immigrating to Israel this August was 578 as compared to last year’s sum of 407 during the same month. “The increase,” said Yehiel Liket, Israel Aliya Center North American director, “is encouraging coming as it does after a period of declining immigration figures.” The Israel Aliya Center, which handles Jewish immigration to Israel through 16 regional offices in the U.S. and Canada, also reported an increase in the number of requests and interviews of those inquiring about possibilities of settlement in Israel.
