The Israel Mission here said today that Ambassador Chaim Herzog had been invited by the president of the Security Council to discuss Secretary General Kurt Waldheim’s report on the United Nations Emergency Force in which the UN chief asked for an expansion of the 3987-man UNEF contingent in the Sinai.
The meeting on the report will take place tomorrow in advance of a session of the Security. Council, scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday, to take up the matter of renewal of the UN mandate in the Sinai which expires Oct. 24, A similar meeting of the Council president with the Egyptian Ambassador to the UN also has been scheduled.
In his report to the Security Council Friday, Waldheim said the expanded role of the UNEF under the second interim Sinai accord would require an increase of about 840 men. He also said the force would need four helicopters and other aircraft and four ships for naval patrol activities.
Waldheim estimated that the additional man-power and equipment needs would raise operating costs from $65 million last year to $87 million. He said his estimate was for the year ending Oct. 24, 1976. Under the second accord, it was specified that the Sinai agreement should be renewed annually instead of for shorter terms as in the past.
