Esther Roth, an Israeli Olympic athlete who survived the massacre of her team-mates at Munich in 1972, qualified for the 100-meters hurdles semi-finals at the Montreal Olympics yesterday. Ms. Roth, 24, clocked 13.06 seconds in her first round heat, winning second place after Gudrun Berend of East Germany. She bettered her own previous record of 13.09 seconds to set a new Israeli national record for the 100-meters hurdles. She is the only member of Israel’s 1976 Olympic team who was also a competitor in the 1972 Olympics in Munich.
