Belgian Jews have asked West German justice authorities to speed up the legal proceedings against Ernst Ehlers, the former Nazi police chief for war-time occupied Belgium. Ehlers, believed to have been responsible for the arrest, deportation and murder of more than 25,000 Jews, has never been tried because a court in Flensburg found that he did not necessarily know the fate of the deported Jews.
