American Mizrachi Women (AMW), the major religious women’s Zionist organization in the United States, has launched a special membership drive for the 29th World Zionist Congress next February.

Sarah Shane, AMW president, said: “The World Zionist Congress is a crucial event for the Jewish community because the decisions made will affect Zionist policy and influence Jewish life all over the world. Representation at the Congress is proportionate to organization membership and it is of the utmost importance that the AMW delegation be large because we are the voice of traditional Jewish education. We represent Torah values and ideals. We are the religious presence.”

The membership drive is being held now, Mrs. Shane noted, because delegates to the Congress will be elected by membership this October and any boost in membership will therefore have to occur before October.

The AMW president pointed out the organization maintains a network of schools in Israel which provide academic and vocational training for disadvantaged children who could otherwise not afford to continue their education after the compulsory nine grades and “they instill in these children a deep commitment to their land and their people, and an abiding love for the Torah and its teachings.”

The AMW delegation at the WZO “will stand for these schools and the traditional Jewish ideals on which they are founded,” Mrs. Shane said.
