Special security measures were put into effect today to forestall possible terrorist acts during the High Holidays which begin tonight. The army, police, border police and civil defense forces are involved. The army has beefed up its patrols along the northern border to protect civilian centers against attacks by terrorist infiltrators. The areas around synagogues in Israeli cities and towns and settlements in the occupied territories will be heavily patroled.

The main concern of the regular police is the regulation of road traffic which is expected to reach a peak during the three-day holiday. Hundreds of thousands of vehicles are expected on the highways. Special attention is being given the Negev roads leading to Eilat which is a favorite resort of Israeli holiday-makers.
