— Israeli exports to the U.S. during 1980 rose by 29.6 percent–a higher rate than its general exports throughout the world– to $977 million, according to data supplied by the Ministry for Commerce, Industry and Tourism.
General exports rose by 25 percent to about $5.5 billion. Exports to the U.S. represent 17.5 percent of the total. About half of Israeli exports to the U.S. are of polished diamonds. Exports in 1980 covered 37 percent of imports from the U.S., an increase over the 26.3 percent two years previously.
