Yitzhak Shubinsky, a pioneer of the Israel automobile industry, died at his home in Haifa last week. He was 68 years old. Shubinsky, born in Poland, came to Israel at the age of 18. An importer-exporter when the State was established in 1948, he established the first firm in Israel manufacturing cars from imported engines fitted to locally-produced fibreglass bodies. His cars sold well for some years until he sold out his interest to foreign investors.
