The managing board of the Israel Broadcasting Authority ruled Tuesday that the term “West Bank” will no longer be used on radio and television. It ordered instead that the terms “Judaea and Samaria” be used to describe the territory, except in the context of a specific statement or quotation referring to the West Bank. A majority of the board felt that “West Bank” has political connotations implying that the territory is part of Jordan. Tommy Lapid, Director General of the semi-autonomous agency argued that “Judaea and Samaria” also has political connotations. But he was overruled by a majority of the board.
