The Security Council today approved a six-month extension of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) separating Israeli and Syrian armies on the Golan Heights. The current mandate expires Nov. 30. The vote was 14-0 in favor and no abstentions. The People’s Republic of China, which opposes UN peacekeeping operations, did not take part in the vote, as usual. UNDOF, established by the Council in May, 1974, comprises nearly 1,300 troops from Austria, Canada, Finland and Poland.
