Police have warned residents of the Tel Aviv area to be on special alert for suspicious parcels, on the basis of intelligence information received about possible terrorist attempts in the coming days.
A small explosive charge went off yesterday in a bus in Herzlia north of Tel Aviv. Some damage was caused to the vehicle but no casualties, as passengers had been evacuated from the bus seconds before it went off.
A passenger noticed a parcel left under a rear seat and called the driver, who, against all regulations, opened the parcel himself. On seeing a clock and wires inside he ordered all passenger off the vehicle. It exploded before police engineers could arrive to defuse the bomb. Half a dozen bomb parcels have been left in Tel Aviv area bus stations in the past three weeks.
