France said today that the resumption of Franco-Israeli negotiations on cultural matters does not imply any change in France’s basic policy and its demand for an immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon. This statement was issued as the Franco-Israeli cultural commission met in Jerusalem to negotiate a new cultural agreement between the two states.
The commission was initially scheduled to meet last June but France postponed its session because of the war in Lebanon. The commission is to draw up a new two-year agreement which will provide for cultural and artistic exchanges, academic cooperation and the teaching of French and Hebrew in the two countries.
