The end of the war between Iraq and Iran, whenever it comes, could pose a serious danger for Israel, according to Yitzhak Oron, director of the Center for Political Research at the Foreign Ministry.

As long as the two countries, both sworn enemies of Israel, are at each other’s throats, Israel’s interests benefit, but once the war ends Israel may be faced with a stronger Iraqi army, Oron told the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee today. The Iraqi army will comprise 10 divisions more than it had prior to the war with Iran, he said and a strong Iraqi-Syrian front might be formed against Israel.
