Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir returned home from a three-day official visit to Rome Wednesday evening and expressed satisfaction with his talks with Italian leaders.

Questioned by reporters at Ben-Gurion Airport about a rumor that he was to have met with Jordan’s King Hussein, Shamir said he had no information about such plans and that there was therefore no point in asking him why a meeting with the Jordanian monarch had not taken place.

Shamir said he had been told by friends in Italy not to worry about adverse press criticism of Israeli actions on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip “because whatever the media says, the Italian people love Israel.”
