For the first time in nine years, Israel is to participate in an international trade fair in Cairo later this month.

About 40 Israeli firms are scheduled to attend.

The last time Israel attended the fair, in 1986, it was marred by tragedy. Terrorists attacked a car of Israeli diplomats, and an Israeli Embassy staffer was killed, a spokesman for the embassy in Cairo said.

Israel planned to send a delegation to the fair last year, but canceled after the massacre at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron.

Some 40 countries are expected to take part in the gathering.
