The United Nations General Assembly asked Israel to pay $2.4 million for damage caused by a 1996 Israeli blast at a U.N. compound in southern Lebanon. One Israeli official called the request, which was made as part of a resolution to pay for the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon, “ridiculous.” The shelling was part of an Israeli attack against Lebanese guerrillas who had fired into Israel.
