The revelation came at a delicate time for Deutsche Bank, which is negotiating with the World Jewish Congress to reach a settlement of Holocaust-era claims. Reacting to the historian’s disclosure, New York City’s comptroller, Alan Hevesi, said American financial officials should not approve the bank’s planned $10.1 billion takeover of Bankers Trust until the bank settles the claims.
