Israel should avoid official contacts with the president of Belarus during his current trip to the region, according to the head of the Jewish community in the former Soviet republic. Citing Alexander Lukashenko’s anti-Semitic views, Yakov Goodman also said the government of Belarus has refused to set up Jewish schools, help maintain Jewish cemeteries and historic monuments, or create memorials to the nation’s Holocaust victims.
