Most Israelis are looking forward to welcoming Pope John Paul II when he begins his historic pilgrimage later this month. According to a Gallup poll, 59 percent of Israeli Jews view the pope’s visit “positively” or “very positively.” Fervently Orthodox Israelis had the most negative outlook on the visit, with only 8 percent saying they approve.
