Israeli and Jewish leaders hailed Pope John Paul II’s visit to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem. In his speech, the pope said that he regrets any Christian anti-Semitism toward Jews “at any time, and in any place.” But the pope, who is on a historic weeklong tour of the Holy Land, did not specifically address the Roman Catholic Church’s silence during the Holocaust.
