Jerusalem prosecutors are expected to report soon on whether criminal charges should be brought against former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The report comes amid speculation over whether Netanyahu, who was defeated overwhelmingly by Ehud Barak in the 1999 elections, would try to stage a political comeback if early elections were called. Police have already recommended that Netanyahu be charged with breach of public trust and fraud.
