Ruth Rubin, a folklorist who collected about 2,000 Yiddish songs beginning in the 1930s, died June 11 in New York at the age of 93. Rubin’s collection was known for its emphasis on songs sung by woman in the home. Rubin, who also performed the songs, helped preserve the “world of our mothers,” said one scholar.
