An Israeli Arab legislator proposed a bill to allow Israeli youths to request an exemption from mandatory army service on the grounds of conscience. Knesset member Ahmed Tibi said it is unfair that secular Israelis are required to serve in the army, while their fervently religious peers are exempted en masse by declaring Torah their work.
