The PLO’s mini-parliament will back Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat’s plan to declare a state this year, but will not set a date for the announcement, a PLO official told Reuters. The statement came as the 129-member Palestinian Central Council met for a second day in the Gaza Strip to discuss the issue.
