A fervently Orthodox legislator in Israel withdrew a motion to allow parents to hit their children for “educational purposes” after it became clear the initiative lacked a majority in the Knesset. Knesset member Avraham Ravitz of United Torah Judaism had presented the motion in response to a court ruling barring any use of physical violence against children.
