Israel’s chief Sephardi rabbi says he is considering stepping down because Ashkenazi rabbis are protesting his liberal approach over the biblically mandated sabbatical year in which Jews are to refrain from agriculture. Israeli political leaders from across the political spectrum and Israel’s chief Ashkenazi rabbi have urged Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron not to step down.
