Some 400 tons of carp turned up dead in fish ponds in northern Israel. The incident came two weeks before Rosh Hashanah, when large amounts of the carp- based delicacy gefilte fish are traditionally consumed at holiday tables. The Israeli daily Yediot Achronot said it was not yet clear whether the fish poisoning was intentional or due to water contamination.
