A rabbi suspended from his rabbinic organization for sexual misconduct has been hired to a top position by a program that sends young Jews on free trips to Israel. Rabbi Sheldon Zimmerman, who will serve as executive vice president of Birthright Israel, resigned last December as president of Hebrew Union College- Jewish Institute of Religion after the Reform movement’s Central Conference of American Rabbis suspended him from rabbinical service for at least two years.
