One of Germany’s best-known authors faced charges of anti-Semitism for his latest book. Novelist Martin Walser sent proofs of “Death of a Critic” to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in the hope it would be serialized by the newspaper, but instead it was attacked as a thinly-disguised fantasy about killing a Holocaust survivor.
