A novel about a young American Jewish man’s search for the woman who saved his grandfather from the Nazis won Britain’s $15,000 Guardian First Book Award. The judges praised Jonathan Safran Foer’s “Everything Is Illuminated” for its “stylistic daring and originality, as well as the book’s shattering conclusion.”
