The South Africa-based businessman who made a controversial $1.5 million loan to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s sons accused the Israeli opposition of using him to try to influence next week’s elections. In a sworn affidavit to South Africa’s Justice Ministry, Kern said he never asked Sharon’s sons what the purpose of the loan was and never asked Sharon for anything in return.
