Israel’s Ashkenazic chief rabbi appealed to the pope to intervene in the case of an Israeli being held in Lebanon. Writing before the pope holds an audience with Lebanon’s prime minister, Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau asked the pope to press for humanitarian assistance for Elhanan Tannenbaum, according to the Jerusalem Post.
