Brazil’s government has approved an agreement allowing Israel to launch satellites from Brazil. Israel sought the use of Brazil’s Alcantara Space Center, located in Brazil’s northern state of Maranhao, because it is an easier launch site than Israel. Alcantara is preferable both because it is closer to the equator, which aids the launch, and because optimal launches in Israel are impossible without the dispersal of booster rockets over neighboring enemy countries.
