The man convicted of violating a Jewish scholar’s civil rights during 1991 riots in Crown Heights, N.Y., was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Lemrick Nelson, 28, faced three trials in the case and already has served nearly a decade in prison. In May, a jury found him guilty of stabbing Australian yeshiva scholar Yankel Rosenbaum during the riots, but not of causing Rosenbaum’s death. The stabbing capped four days of violence in the Brooklyn neighborhood that began after a Chasidic driver fatally struck a black child with his car.
