Israel is committed to building its West Bank security barrier, despite new U.S. criticism. “Israel will always reserve the right to take unilateral steps to separate from the Palestinians, through a fence or otherwise,” Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told Israel Radio on Thursday. Palestinians denounce the barrier as a land grab, and President Bush on Wednesday called on Israel not to prejudice future peace negotiations “with the placement of walls and fences.”
