Israel protested Russia’s support for last week’s U.N. Security Council resolution backing the “road map” peace plan. The Israelis summoned Russia’s ambassador to Israel for a meeting to protest what Israel’s government viewed as an attempt to usurp Washington’s leading role in the peace process.
