Israeli settlers called for Ehud Olmert’s ouster after he suggested a unilateral Israeli withdrawal from the territories. Touted as a successor to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Deputy Prime Minister Olmert raised eyebrows last week by telling the Israeli daily Yediot Achronot that Israel should withdraw from much of the West Bank and Gaza Strip — including areas around Jerusalem — in the absence of peace talks with the Palestinians.
