The United States considered seizing oil fields in Saudi Arabia and other Arab Gulf states in response to the 1973 Arab oil embargo. Newly declassified British intelligence shows the Nixon administration considered using airborne troops to seize oil fields in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait in response to the oil ban in the mid-1970s.
