Sam Katz, an Israeli-born baseball-team owner, was elected mayor of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Katz, 52, whose parents were Holocaust survivors, came to Canada as an infant. Considered a political outsider, the conservative-leaning businessman gained local fame 10 years ago when he negotiated construction of a downtown stadium and founded the Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball club.
