Fred Efraim O’Sullivan, the first Jewish police chief in both Mississippi and Louisiana, died Feb. 20 in Biloxi, Miss., at 67. He died of diabetes-related problems. O’Sullivan was born a Catholic and converted to Judaism in 1967. Still proud of his Catholic heritage, he marched in St. Patrick’s Day parades wearing a green yarmulke woven with shamrocks, the Mississippi Press reported.
