The U.S. House of Representatives rejected a bill that could have penalized Israel for its arms sales to China. The bill rejected Thursday would have subjected companies that violate arms embargoes to tough congressional review. It was principally aimed at European nations that are considering suspending such embargoes, but Israel might have been affected as well.
Two lobbyists associated with a Jewish lobbyist under investigation reportedly made aliyah. Sam Hook and his wife Shana Tesler left July 11 for Israel in what their lawyer said was a move planned long before allegations of fraud emerged against Jack Abramoff, The Hill newspaper reported. Abramoff currently is the subject of two Senate investigations, a Justice Department investigation and a grand jury inquiry for his role in extracting tens of millions of dollars from Indian tribes to lobby for casino rights.
