Yemeni authorities evacuated Jews living in an area rife with anti-government rebels. A Jewish woman from the northern city of Saada told Israel Radio by telephone Monday that President Ali Abdullah Saleh had the 45-member community moved to the capital, Sanaa. Jews in the impoverished Gulf Arab state recently received boosted government protection following threats from local insurgents identified with al-Qaida.
